Versus are blazing a trail through the British club scene and beyond, having already clocked up releases on world-class labels such as Ultra, Repopulate Mars, Under No Illusion, SOLA and Realm. Latest single Ain’t No Stopping is the next step on the road to world domination for this ultra-talented duo.
Hey guys, thanks for chatting with us today! How has 2022 been for you so far?
It’s been super busy, we had Red Light released back end of 2021 on Repopulate Mars, and a lot of that heat rolled over from that into 2022. We released Dolla Gang back on Ultra this year too, and we got asked by the D&B Legend DJ Zinc to remix one of his tracks on his record label (not every day your idol asks you to remix his tune). We’ve received a lot of love and support so far from Sonny Fodera, TCTS, Dom Dolla Wade, Sam Divine, Malaa Ben Malone, Leftwing & Kody…so it has been a great year so far.
Tell us about your journey into electronic music, when did you first fall in love with it?
We have always been into electronic music from growing up listening and raving to D&B, from mixing UKGarage then moved into the American 4X4 Garage sound (Todd Edwards/Tuff Enuff Brown, etc) which lead us to fall into Hard house and vocal house. we pretty much fell in love with electronic music from the off.
Given your love of garage and hard house respectively, any chance of seeing some Versus releases in either of those genres?
Never say never….who knows!
You’ve both been involved in the UK club scene for a number of years. Do you feel like it’s back to normal after the damage caused by the pandemic?
We would say it’s back in full swing, we have been seeing shows not just in the UK, but around the world sell out quickly….all the festivals are busy! it’s great for the scene.
What was the inspiration behind your latest single, Ain’t No Stopping?
We wanted to make a tune with that American / Chris Lake vibe, you know those weird sounds, glitchy with a cool vocal. we think it turned out well.
How do you work, do you have an idea in your head you work towards or do you just experiment and jam and see what happens?
We have a master template we always open to start a track, it has our favourite sounds and drum sounds in….we jam and build from that.
What are some of the key bits of music-making gear in your current setup?
Ableton 11, Focusrite Pro Red 16, Moog Minitaur, Roland TR-08 Drum Machine (gifted to us from Marshall Jefferson), Focal Twin 6 Be monitor speakers, Roland Juno-106, and a few secret VSTS, and of course, a good trusty kettle to make cups of tea!
What would you like to achieve as an artist in the rest of 2022 and beyond?
More of our music being played on National Radio, more gigs outside the UK….keep releasing quality music and keep building the Versus name!
