Skrillex and Chase & Status have joined forces for “Essa Ta Quente,” a surprise collaboration shaped by their shared love of Brazilian rap and baile funk.
The track brings together three of bass music’s most influential producers, connecting Skrillex’s restless approach to electronic production with the drum & bass foundations of Chase & Status and the rhythmic energy of Brazil’s baile funk scene.
While the official release arrives as a surprise, “Essa Ta Quente” has already had its first encounter with the dancefloor. An unreleased version surfaced during Skrillex and Chase & Status’ joint appearance at Boomtown 2026 last month, immediately triggering speculation among fans that a collaboration was on the way.
Now, the ID has officially landed.
From Boomtown ID to Official Release
The first major tease came during Skrillex’s Boomtown set, when Chase & Status joined him onstage for a joint performance. Flowdan also made a surprise appearance during the set, adding another heavyweight voice from the UK bass scene to the moment.
For listeners following the performance online, however, one of the biggest talking points was the unidentified Skrillex and Chase & Status collaboration.
The speculation proved correct.

The duo explained that the track grew from their shared interest in Brazilian music.
Born out of our love for Brazilian rap and baile funk, we’re always looking to explore new styles and push new sounds.
Bass Music Meets Baile Funk
“Essa Ta Quente” arrives at a moment when the boundaries between regional club sounds and the international electronic circuit are becoming increasingly fluid.
Baile funk emerged from Rio de Janeiro’s favela party culture and developed its own distinctive rhythmic language, built around raw percussion, MC-led vocals and soundsystem energy. Over time, its influence has traveled far beyond Brazil, increasingly appearing across experimental club music, bass, pop and global festival sets.
For Skrillex, that cross-pollination fits naturally into a career increasingly defined by movement between scenes rather than commitment to a single genre. His recent output has continued to move through bass music, UK garage and other club-focused styles, including his collaboration “Mirage” with UKG producer MPH.
Chase & Status have similarly spent decades pushing drum & bass into new territory while maintaining connections with grime, hip-hop, dubstep and UK soundsystem culture.
“Essa Ta Quente” brings those instincts together, using Brazilian rap and baile funk as another point of exchange between club cultures.
A New Piece of Generic Everything
The collaboration will also appear on Chase & Status’ forthcoming album, Generic Everything, scheduled for release on October 9.
The project is shaping up to extend the duo’s network well beyond drum & bass. Its contributors include J Hus and Little Simz, alongside other artists spanning different corners of contemporary UK music.
Recent singles have already begun revealing that wider approach. Chase & Status previously shared “Gone Too Far” with Debbie, as well as “Disgruntled,” featuring J Hus and IRAH.
The album follows another unusual appearance for the duo earlier this year. In June, Chase & Status stepped into the virtual world of 007: First Light, performing a digital DJ set inside the James Bond video game.
A Collaboration Years in the Making
The significance of “Essa Ta Quente” lies partly in how naturally the collaboration connects several musical worlds.
Skrillex and Chase & Status have each played major roles in expanding bass-heavy electronic music beyond its original scenes, while continuing to absorb influences from outside their respective foundations.
Their first official collaboration does not simply combine dubstep and drum & bass. Instead, it looks toward Brazil, drawing from a club culture whose rhythmic fingerprints are becoming increasingly visible across international electronic music.
After years of friendship, a Boomtown preview and plenty of online speculation, Skrillex and Chase & Status have finally put their names on the same record. This time, the heat is coming from Brazil.
