Domy Berardino and Mirco Sonatore are two Italian DJ/Producers who form the artistic project “The Deepshakerz” a perfect blend of various musical styles from vocal House, afro- beats , 90s Tech and Chicago style. We’ve talked with them about how thing are going and their new EP ‘Discoball’.
Hey guys. How are you? What has been going on in the world of The Deepshakerz?
Hey! We ́re great. Fortunately, we ́ve never stopped producing in the last two years of the pandemic, so we continued to release new tracks, and we hope to return to normal as soon as possible.
Tell us how you guys met and why you started working together?
We were both at an event organized by a radio station in southern Italy with which we collaborated individually. As soon as we met, we promised ourselves to produce something together, and so it was!
Someone would call it “love at first sight”.
We have been working together for more than 10 years now.
What gear do you currently have in your studio set up?
We prefer to work with various plug ins and digital vst so we have a fairly basic set up an iMac, sound card, keyboard and midi controller.
Who does what when it comes to production. Do you each take care of certain parts of the music?
Working in two different studios each of us develops an idea, and as soon as we find something convincing we pass on the various projects so we discuss what to add or change in the groove.
How do you work, do you have an idea in your head you work towards or do you just experiment and jam and see what happens?
It’s hard to say. Each production is different. We can start experimenting and see what comes out or just develop an idea that we have in our head.
What are your favorite shows to DJ, at small intimate clubs or big festival stages?
There is no preference between a small club or a festival. We love to have genuine fun, and to see people feeling part of our music, passion and fun.
When you DJ do you play B2B or are you playing simultaneously?
We usually play together, complementing each other. Maybe while one is mixing, the other is doing more fx, loops or acapellas.
Tell us about your new Discoball EP – what inspired or influenced it? Where, when and who was it written for?
Discoball was born in full lockdown. After such a sad moment, like many others, we had a desire to party. So, we have taken some disco sounds that we love so much, and we have redesigned them in a typical Deepshakerz key.
New release:
Beatport
Where does the impulse to create something come from for you? What role do sources of inspiration like dreams, other forms of art, personal relationships, politics etc play?
We create music mostly for us. The fact that others like it is a coincidence. A nice coincidence, we would say! Producing music makes us feel good!
From a movie or a song to a meeting with a friend, any input inspires us to create new tracks.
