There’s a lot you can say about the multi-talented artist/producer, Alexsander.
Keeping his identity seemingly anonymous, Alexsander draws inspiration from artists like Vangelis and all the way to Michelangelo.
His debut track Output was edited by Dutch superstar Sander Van Doorn, later the same year a collaboration with CamelPhat and releasing three singles marking his unorthodox techno oriented sound.
In the past years, Alexsander has received widespread support by techno and house legends including Adam Beyer, Black Coffee, Booka Shade, Maceo Plex, Groove Armada, Joris Voorn to Sasha, Kölsch, Joseph Capriati, Danny Tenaglia, Marco Carola and Jamie Jones, just to name a few.
The collaboration with CamelPhat “The Switch” featured on UK based festival Creamfields promotion video. A year later, Alexsanders singel “Tales” was the main intro song to Ultra Music Festival world wide video for the underground Resistance stage.
With heavy support of his releases by Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show, The Alexsander rise have been fast.
Hey Alexsander, great to chat! How has 2022 been for you so far? Are you feeling optimistic about the year ahead?
Great! I recently released on Tiesto’s AFTHRS label together with Miss Monique and Vania (Singer on Paul Kalkbrenner) and currently sitting on 100k + plays on that track. I’m excited for this year and what’s coming from my side and the label and artist side. Got an album ready also, a dedication to underground music with some really great featuring artists that have been Grammy nominated..

How was the pandemic for you and what affect did it have on your music taste and style?
It was very developing, got more information about the world, music, new business opportunities and so on. Music wise it expanded a bit, got more into producing more ambient music and movie scores. Which is something I’m very passionate about.
What gear do you use currently to make music? Do you use lots of hardware to create your sound?
I use a mix of analog gear and digital. Most often start digitally and add analog elements when needed. Currently adding more new analog hardware to my setup, since I’m planning to develop a live setup.
Where do you feeling your best environment as a DJ is? A small dark club or a huge outdoor festival stage? late at night for the weirdos or early so you can play slow and eclectic etc?
I love when playing for a small dark club that is packed and feeling the vibrations of the crowd. It’s another vibe compared to a festival. And late night, when everyone is in their own world and just want vibrations from the selector is a pretty fun feeling.
How do you work, do you have an idea in your head you work towards or do you just experiment and jam and see what happens?
It’s different from time to time, sometimes I have an idea that I’ve been thinking of, sometimes improvise and “chase” creativity to come out by playing around and just having fun. That’s one of the most important creative tips I can give you. Realise it’s a play and the creative energy will flow…

Tell us about your new single ‘Magnetic’ – how and why and when did you link with Oldmark?
Magnetic is a track that Oldmark had before and approached me with it, then we reworked it, since he’s signed under my label and also working close to me as well as sharing the same studio, we felt this one would be a great start for our releases this year. We have a lot of tracks together and really enjoy working with each other. I have been making music alone for almost 11 years so for me to be able to have a studio partner and someone to bounce ideas with is amazing.
What inspired or influenced it, where and when and who was it written for?
It’s inspired by the classic progressive melodic techno style, a timeless style I would say. It was finished in. It’s inspired by the classic progressive melodic techno style, a timeless style I would say. It was finished in November 2021, in our studio here in Stockholm. It’s a great track for headphones listing since its a melodic journey but also a cool intro track in dj sets.
What made you want to release it on your own imprint?
My own imprint will always be the first place I’m releasing my music, since it’s way easier, faster and a better way to continuously keep a momentum going, than depending on other labels and their release schedules.
Do you make the tunes you want to play in your own sets, is there a direct link like that?
Yes and for listening to headphones outside the club. My idea as an artist is not to be stuck in just making 4 on the floor tracks for the club, but rather an artistic approach that would work in different formats, but with a thread of my sound and vision.
Are you concerned with your environmental impact as a DJ, and what can you do about it if so?
Since I’m not taking any gigs, I’m not really doing any impact. I do think we should consider developing more innovation in this world that is good for the environment and the humans in this world. But there’s a lot of hidden technology that would make us thrive so not until the controlled opposition can release this, we would be able to make a huge change to this “environment” problem. Also if you really check who’s making this biggest impact on the environment, then you would find out that it’s actually the big corporations, kind of the same people who are pushing this “problem” agenda, are the ones who also are the biggest contributors to the problem.
What else have you got coming up in 2022 that you can tell us about?
I have an album almost ready, some of my own singles and collaborations with some really great artists. Also a lot of NFT projects, from music to art. One that I can tell you now, which is the first electronic music act in the metaverse, called ROBOPUNKZ (www.robopunkz.com) more to come, stay tuned on my social media @thealexsandermusic
