Towards the end of Summer 2020, Dissident founder Noel Sanger dropped his unique single “A.F.F.T.E.R.” Support on the record was heavy and included names like Guy J, Pete Tong, DJ Zombi, KISS FM, Cevin Fisher, Just Her, Lemon8 and more, and ultimately landing at number 3 in Beatport’s progressive releases.
Now, nearly 2 years later, this tasty jam with its unmistakable melodic horn section has been remixed by some of Dissident Music’s core artists and friends of the label, including Miami’s Xima Records and Profundo Music co-founder, German Garcia who turns in a sterling organic house mix, full of life and melody and ready for all of your summer adventures.
Great to talk to you German, how are you?
Doing great thank you for asking.
How did you get to where you are in music? What has been your journey so far?
Well, there is always more to accomplish but passion, time, and hard work are all key factors for me.
There are a lot of ups and downs, the industry is always morphing and changing and I’m happy with most of what I have accomplished so far but there is a lot more work to do.
What would you say are the key themes behind your approach to production?
I don’t have a formula for my production approach. Each project is different and the mood or mindset might not be the same as the previews project I think is good to embrace that and create something based on how you feel at that moment.
Tell us about your new remix on Dissident… was this one that came together quite easily?
The remix pack came with great elements, melodic patterns, and cool chord progressions that opened my mind to more options as to where to go with the remix.
What would be your dream track to remix if you could pick anything?
Ha, that’s a good question, there are so many but probably Ringo by Joris Voors. I’m a huge fan of this guy and that is one beautiful tune.
What are currently some of the most important pieces of gear for you in the studio?
Probably my UA Apollo Twin x that became a CPU savior. My iMac, which is the center of all, and my new Adam Audio monitors helped a lot with mixing this remix.
How do you avoid getting stuck in a rut of making the same thing over and over again?
Well experimenting with sounds, being on a synth, or finding a sample that you can manipulate till becomes unique and you can work around it to build a track, that can be a good way to avoid that.
Besides making your own music, what music are you currently listening to?
I like all kinds of stuff but lately, i have been on a French journey per se and listening to people like Kermesse, Bon Entendeur, Sir Jean, and other similar stuff.
What else have you got coming up this year?
I have a few projects coming. A remix for a local guy and friend which will be out on my label Profundo and some originals that will be more on the melodic/afro side of things. Also, I will be revising some unfinished projects and see what I can finalize for the summer.
