Justice to Compose Original Dynamic Score for Grand Theft Auto VI

Justice have been revealed as the composers behind the original dynamic score for Grand Theft Auto VI, placing the influential French electronic duo at the musical centre of one of the most anticipated video game releases of the decade.

The announcement arrived alongside a new official trailer for the game featuring “Flower In A Hurricane,” a new Justice single created with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Released through Ed Banger Records, the track provides the soundtrack to the latest look at Rockstar Games’ return to Vice City, connecting Justice’s distinctive electronic production with the neon soaked streets, criminal encounters and cinematic atmosphere of the forthcoming title.

While details surrounding the complete score remain limited, Justice have been confirmed as the composers of the game’s original dynamic music, suggesting their contribution will extend considerably beyond a collection of standalone tracks.

Justice Enter the World of Vice City

The latest trailer offers glimpses of the fictional state of Leonida and protagonists Jason and Lucia, whose story unfolds around a criminal conspiracy.

According to the information released alongside the trailer, the footage was captured entirely in game on PlayStation 5.

Music has always played a central role in the identity of the Grand Theft Auto series, particularly through its fictional radio stations. An original dynamic score, however, performs a different function.

Rather than simply accompanying players through predetermined songs, dynamic scoring can respond to gameplay, environments and narrative situations. Justice therefore have the opportunity to shape the atmosphere surrounding the player as the story develops.

Further details about the complete score and its eventual release are still to be announced.

“Flower In A Hurricane” Connects Several Musical Worlds

The first major taste of Justice’s involvement arrives through “Flower In A Hurricane,” a collaboration that brings together an unusually broad collection of artists.

Tame Impala renews an already established creative relationship with Justice, while SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard bring additional musical identities into the project.

The collaboration also continues a particularly successful period for Justice.

Their 2024 album Hyperdrama marked a major return for Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, expanding the duo’s combination of distorted electronics, disco, rock and cinematic production. The album included “Neverender,” their collaboration with Tame Impala, which went on to earn a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Recording.

“Flower In A Hurricane” now brings that relationship into the world of Grand Theft Auto VI while significantly widening the collaborative circle around it.

A 34 Track Album Expands the Musical World

The Justice single will also appear on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a separate 34 track collection of original music scheduled to arrive alongside the game on November 19.

The album brings together artists from electronic music, hip hop, alternative pop and other contemporary scenes.

Fred again.., PinkPantheress and Etienne de Crécy are among the electronic names connected to the project, while other contributions include music involving Travis Scott, Yung Lean, Future, Metro Boomin and CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso.

One of the most notable tracks connected with the project also involves Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who produced new music for Travis Scott.

The scale of the album suggests Rockstar Games is treating original music as a substantial part of the new title rather than relying entirely on licensed catalogue material.

Radio Returns With a Broader Format

The soundtrack will exist alongside the fictional radio culture that has become one of the defining characteristics of the Grand Theft Auto series.

The first group of stations announced for the game demonstrates a broad approach to contemporary music. Bad Bunny and RaiNao are connected to Latin station Cocoteo FM, while Burna Boy and Palms Trax will lead AfroBank FM, a station expected to explore sounds including amapiano and 3-step.

The game is also set to introduce on demand podcasts to the series for the first time.

Players will reportedly be able to listen while driving or exploring the world on foot, expanding the audio experience beyond the traditional relationship between vehicles and radio stations.

Together, the dynamic score, original album, radio programming and podcasts point toward an unusually layered approach to sound throughout the game.

A Natural Evolution for Justice

For Justice, composing music for such a large interactive world represents a significant new chapter.

Since emerging from the Paris electronic scene in the 2000s, Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay have consistently approached electronic music with a cinematic sense of scale.

Their 2007 debut album Cross transformed heavily compressed electronics, distorted bass, disco references and rock influenced arrangements into a sound that became one of the defining signatures of the French electronic movement of its era.

Later albums including Audio, Video, Disco, Woman and Hyperdrama continued to expand that vocabulary through orchestral textures, progressive rock influences, funk, pop and increasingly elaborate arrangements.

The duo’s live productions have similarly treated lighting, staging and sound as interconnected parts of the same experience.

Scoring an interactive world as vast as Grand Theft Auto VI therefore represents both new territory and a logical extension of the way Justice have approached music throughout their career.

Electronic Music at the Centre of GTA VI

The wider musical direction surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI also demonstrates how deeply electronic music is embedded within the project.

Justice may occupy the central role through the original score, but the presence of Fred again.., PinkPantheress, Etienne de Crécy, Palms Trax and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo connects multiple generations of electronic culture to the game.

From French electronic pioneers to contemporary club music, amapiano and globally oriented radio programming, the soundtrack appears designed to reflect the musical diversity of the fictional world surrounding Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Until then, much of Justice’s score remains unheard. “Flower In A Hurricane” offers the first significant indication of what Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay are bringing to Rockstar Games’ world, but the more intriguing question is how their music will behave once players are actually inside it.
