Avicii’s Historic Tomorrowland 2011 Set Released in Full to Mark 15 Years of “Levels”

A defining moment from Avicii’s rise to global electronic music stardom has returned 15 years later.

Avicii’s complete 2011 Tomorrowland Mainstage performance has been officially released in full for the first time, commemorating the 15th anniversary of “Levels,” the track that became one of the most recognisable records of his career and a defining anthem of its era.

The newly released performance carries particular historical significance. It was Avicii’s first appearance at Tomorrowland and also marked the first time “Levels” was played at the festival, approximately three months before its official release.

What audiences can now revisit is therefore more than an archival festival set. It captures Tim Bergling at a crucial point in his career, just as Avicii was moving from rapidly rising producer to one of the artists who would reshape the international profile of electronic dance music.

Before “Levels” Became a Global Anthem

By the time Avicii arrived at Tomorrowland in 2011, momentum around the Swedish producer was already accelerating.

But “Levels” would take that trajectory considerably further.

Built around a sample of Etta James and an instantly recognisable melodic progression, the track became closely associated with the explosion of festival focused electronic music during the early 2010s.

Its eventual success stretched far beyond dancefloors. “Levels” became one of the records that introduced Avicii’s melodic production style to a mainstream global audience while remaining deeply connected with electronic music culture.

The 2011 Tomorrowland performance captures the track before that history had fully unfolded.

Festival audiences were hearing a record that would soon become inseparable from Avicii’s identity, without knowing how significant it would eventually become.

That perspective gives the newly released footage an unusual weight. Fifteen years later, viewers are able to return to the moment before “Levels” became a global reference point.

The Beginning of Avicii’s Tomorrowland Story

The 2011 appearance also began a lasting relationship between Avicii and Tomorrowland.

Following his debut, Avicii returned to the Belgian festival in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, making Tomorrowland a recurring destination during some of the most important years of his career.

Three of those later performances have subsequently been made available through Apple Music, allowing different stages of Avicii’s evolution to be revisited through his festival sets.

The newly released 2011 recording now provides an earlier chapter.

It documents an artist at the beginning of that relationship, performing on the Tomorrowland Mainstage before many of the songs and career milestones now associated with Avicii had entered electronic music history.

A Career That Changed Festival Dance Music

Avicii’s influence would expand dramatically during the years that followed.

His productions combined electronic structures with strong songwriting and melodies that could travel well beyond traditional club environments.

That approach became particularly visible through records including “Wake Me Up,” “Hey Brother,” “Waiting for Love” and “The Nights.”

Avicii increasingly challenged the boundaries surrounding mainstream electronic music, incorporating acoustic instrumentation, country, folk and pop influences while retaining the emotional melodic language that had become central to his work.

The impact of that approach can still be heard across contemporary dance music.

For a generation of producers, Avicii demonstrated that electronic records designed for enormous festival audiences could also be built around songwriting, emotional narratives and musical influences far beyond the conventional vocabulary of dance music.

The 2011 Tomorrowland set captures an important point before much of that experimentation had reached its largest audience.

Tomorrowland Continues to Celebrate Avicii’s Legacy

The release forms part of a wider period of remembrance surrounding Avicii’s career.

Earlier in 2026, Tomorrowland once again hosted an immersive Avicii tribute experience, creating a 144 square metre installation dedicated to his music, career and legacy.

The project gave festival visitors another way to explore the history of an artist whose relationship with Tomorrowland stretched across five consecutive editions.

Avicii Experience has also continued preserving the story of Tim Bergling beyond the festival environment.

In August, the tenth anniversary of Avicii’s final performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza was commemorated with a special event at The Node in Stockholm.

Together, these projects demonstrate how Avicii’s legacy is increasingly being preserved not simply through individual songs, but through the performances, places and moments that shaped his career.

Fifteen Years Later, “Levels” Still Resonates

Electronic music moves quickly. Festival trends change, production techniques evolve and entire sounds can rise and disappear within a few seasons.

“Levels” has proved unusually resistant to that cycle.

Fifteen years after its emergence, the record remains immediately connected with the period when electronic dance music expanded dramatically into global popular culture.

For many listeners, it also remains inseparable from Avicii himself.

Releasing the full Tomorrowland 2011 performance provides a way of seeing that history before it became history.

The artist behind the decks was making his Tomorrowland debut. The festival was hearing “Levels” for the first time. Neither moment yet carried the significance it would eventually acquire.

That is what makes the recording particularly compelling today.

It does not simply revisit one of Avicii’s early festival performances. It captures the beginning of a relationship between an artist, a festival and a song that would become part of electronic music’s collective memory.
