Amnesia Ibiza Launches “50 Years, 50 Memories” Exhibition for its 50th Anniversary

As Ibiza prepares to reopen for the 2026 season, Amnesia Ibiza will inaugurate its 50th anniversary celebrations with a special exhibition titled “50 Years, 50 Memories,” running from April 22 to May 22 at Hyde Hotel Ibiza.

Presented as part of International Music Summit Ibiza, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore five decades of club culture, not through nostalgia alone, but through a curated narrative of how a single venue helped shape global electronic music.

A Journey Through Five Decades of Dancefloor History

Open daily from 13:00 to 19:00 with free entry, the exhibition traces the evolution of Amnesia from its origins in 1976, when it operated as a rural Ibizan finca, to its transformation into one of the most influential nightclubs in the world.

Through archival material, graphic design, unseen photographs and personal stories, “50 Years, 50 Memories” reconstructs the cultural ecosystem that defined the club: the early Balearic spirit, the explosion of house and techno, and the generations of dancers who passed through its terrace and main room.

More than a timeline, the exhibition positions Amnesia as a cultural catalyst — a place where music, freedom and community converged to create something that extended far beyond the island.

Bringing this exhibition together meant working with something that is, by nature, intangible. Amnesia is not just a timeline or an archive, it’s a feeling, a collective memory, almost a state of mind. The real challenge was translating that into a physical space. There was also the weight of responsibility. We’re not just telling a story, we’re shaping how 50 years of cultural impact will be understood. Says Beatrice Murillo, Marketing Director at Amnesia Ibiza.

From Finca to Global Institution

Few venues have maintained relevance across five decades of constant change. Amnesia’s story is inseparable from Ibiza’s own evolution, from countercultural refuge to global nightlife capital.

What began as informal gatherings in an open-air farmhouse gradually became a reference point for international club culture, hosting pioneering DJs, legendary residencies and defining moments in electronic music history.

“50 Years, 50 Memories” captures that transformation not as a linear progression, but as a series of overlapping eras, each contributing to the club’s identity.

What surprised me most were the early beginnings. It’s a part of the story that isn’t so well known, but it really sets the foundation for everything the club has become and still represents today. It was always a cultural experiment. The Balearic sound, the after-hours culture, even its global impact all emerged organically. Beatriz Murillo mentionned.

An Immersive Experience

Beyond archival displays, the exhibition introduces an immersive virtual reality installation, allowing visitors to step inside key moments from Amnesia’s past.

The experience recreates the sensation of being present during some of the club’s most iconic chapters bridging generations by transforming memory into lived experience.

It’s a reminder that club culture isn’t only documented, it’s felt, remembered and reactivated.

Generations of Artists Reconnect

The exhibition has already drawn visits from artists across generations, underlining Amnesia’s enduring influence. Paul Oakenfold, a central figure in Ibiza’s late-90s and early-2000s explosion, has visited the space, a symbolic return for a DJ whose Balearic sets helped translate the island’s sound to the UK and beyond.

Alongside him, new-wave talent such as Josh Baker has also explored the exhibition, representing a new generation shaped by the very legacy Amnesia helped build. And for these new superstar DJs, the venue is not just history, it’s a reference point, a place where underground culture met global scale.

This cross-generational presence highlights what the exhibition ultimately reveals: Amnesia is not frozen in time it continues to evolve in the present while shaping the future.

More Than a Retrospective

Framed within the broader context of IMS and the opening of the Ibiza season, “50 Years, 50 Memories” serves as both reflection and reset.

It invites visitors, whether longtime clubbers or new generation, to understand the foundations of Ibiza’s nightlife before stepping into its next chapter.

Because before the opening parties, before the lineups and residencies, there is history.
And in Ibiza, that history still dances with Amnesia.
