The DJ and producer flies back to the 80s with two retro tracks: ‘International Olympics’, a mix of sleek synths, vintage drums and a vox from Bamboleira; and ‘Romeo’, which ascendent keys build up a full-bodied nu-dance workout.
Kid Simius, the Spanish DJ and producer based in Berlin, has signed with the German label Watergate Records to continue pushing forward his musical career. The premiere comes with the release of two new songs, the firsts ones to be launched with this new label: ‘International Olympics’ and ‘Romeo’.
Kid Simius is a musical Chameleon: there is no style he can’t defend. From surf-inspired electronica to Balaeric, disco and beyond. Its positivity and fresh style have become its hallmark, as reflected in its most recent complete work ‘Chicken Mango’, which was released this past summer 2021, but also to collaborate with important colleagues in industry such as Gerd Janson, who joined the mentioned EP with a remix. His work has also been like a moth to a flame for some of the industry’s finest tastemakers such as Whomadewho and Major Lazer, who’ve both tapped him to support them at shows, while the likes of Paul Kalkbrenner and Fort Romeau have contributed with remixes to his Jirafa Records imprint.
The two new releases
‘International Olympics’ has a fun retro sheen, mixing up sleek synths, vintage drums and breathy throwback vox from Bamboleira. File under: a feel-good record every set needs. ‘Romeo’ has a similar flex, as ascendent keys build up a full-bodied nu-dance workout.
More about Kid Simius
Adept, versatile, involved and brimming with positivity, Kid Simius has devoted himself to music with soul since he was little: “There are no labels, no tags, just music.” Born in Granada and based in Berlin since 2009, the artist evades the limitations of the genre to embrace and fuse a multitude of styles. Delving into hip hop, electronic music, ambient, surf-inspired electronics, Balearic music, and disco, he is an artist who rather prefers good energy and human connections above genre labels. His goal is to cultivate a dancefloor where everyone feels equal and respected, no matter who they are, channeling the original energy of the club’s culture.
Since moving to the German capital, he has been creating beats and produced for artists like Marsimoto, worked on remixes for Berlin techno producers and awarded with a double platinum for the song ‘Lila Wolken’ by Marteria, Yasha and Miss Platnum. He has been on stages of festivals as diverse as Melt!, Fusion, Berlin Festival, Tauron Nowa Muzyka and SXSW; and the FIB, PHE, Sonorama, San Isidro and Monkey Weekend in Spain; in addition to having been the opening act for artists such as WhoMadeWho, Major Lazer or Crystal Fighters.Beyond his facet as a creator, Kid Simius is also an active part of the music industry with his Jirafa Records label, which he launched in 2014 not only to share his music, but also to provide a platform for other artists. In addition, he also shares his passion for clubbing culture and diversity from Ácido Flamenco Rave Club, his radio program that since the beginning of the pandemic has been broadcast on Ego FM, one of the most important radio stations in Germany.
