We’ve seen a lot of videos of you guys lately, tell us a bit more of what ‘Music Chamber’ does?
Music Chamber is a concept that tells the story of your favorite artist through a combination of image and audio. We invite artists to perform at unique venues across Europe. We want to create a story that gives the fans of an artist a better understanding of the artist’s life.
Sometimes fans feel that a specific artist is so out of reach. And yet most artists are ordinary people, just like you and me.
We love the idea of personal connection, and that is what we want to pass on to the viewer.
When we record a production for a particular artist, we want our viewers to feel part of the video. They have to feel like they are present at that moment. Because not everybody can see his or her favourite artist in real life, we bring the artist to you and create the story behind the person you admire.

Who are the people behind Music Chamber?
The concept came to life in early 2019 by 2 childhood friends, namely; Emiel van Hoeven & I (Jaël de Graav).
Emiel and I have known each other since high school. I had been active as a DJ & producer for a couple of years in those days, while Emiel had found his groove in photography and videography.
We both wanted to bring our passion for image and sound together and linked this to a concept.
We decided to use the name Music Chamber because I used to play a DJ set in my bedroom every week, which I then uploaded to our YouTube channel. After Emiel and I noticed that there wasn’t much progress in the ratings, we decided to transform our simplistic concept into a serious plan. During a holiday in the United States, Emiel and I agreed that it was time to work on an idea where the main focus was on promoting an artist.
Every day after we finished working, we dedicated our spare time and effort to improve the concept. We used the internet to research suitable locations to record a video with an artist. Once we had made a list of suitable (public) places, we would sometimes spend eight hours in the car to ‘briefly’ inspect the location in real life. Sometimes we would discover on the spot that a place was not suitable for a recording. When a site was not convenient, it was often to the logistics because two people couldn’t carry all our equipment to the location.
In the meantime, our team started to expand a little. At this moment, the Music Chamber team has four passionate people: Cédric de Keijzer (videographer), Koen Hoekstra (photographer), Emiel van Hoeven (creative director), and Jaël de Graav (managing director). As we all share the same passion, we are perfectly in sync with each other. For each production, we all draw up a plan that involves sharing our opinions and ideas. This is also part of the reason why the team is so solid.
In addition, we want to offer exclusive parties in the future. We are working hard on this behind the scenes. We will keep the details to ourselves until our plans are more precise.

I can imagine that there are a lot of thing to take care of before, during and after a production. What is your biggest challenge so far?
Each production is unique, which makes the work exciting and challenging. Unusual locations are the hardest to access. For some productions, for example, it is impossible to reach by car. In situations like this, you have to be innovative or have been to the gym enough to walk back and forth. For our last production at Halde Haniel (DE), for example, we took two electric bikes and fixed a bicycle trailer behind them so that we could get up the mountain more easily with all the equipment.
At the Hireath set in Germany, we had just finished setting up everything when suddenly the weather changed dramatically. It took us by surprise, and we had to remove all the electrical equipment immediately. Because we had not foreseen this type of weather, we later encountered problems with our production. The production had to take place at sunset, but the rain started pouring down precisely around that time. For this reason, we did not meet our recording time, and we had two options; cancel the entire recording or rebuild everything and re-record it.
Since we had already spent so much effort on this production, we decided to proceed after the rain. The only disadvantage was that we had not planned any suitable lighting for this. Nowadays, we are better prepared to deal with such a problem.
In general, the weather is our biggest challenge. This is due to the fact that we prefer to record our productions outdoors, but predicting the weather, in the long run, is always a bit of a challenge… Despite this difficult aspect, we try to plan a production with the artist well in advance.
What can you tell us about the next production?
We are constantly working behind the scenes to find a suitable location for the upcoming production. We expect to release a new set in November. We are not revealing what you can expect from this set, but of course, we are always trying to do better than our previous productions.
