France-born and Hong Kong–raised artist Romain FX returns this October with a shimmering new EP, Musique De Maison, on Tokyo’s respected imprint Sound Of Vast. Including a remix from Japan’s dynamic duo Monkey Timers, the release encapsulates Romain’s signature blend of global rhythms, vintage synth work, and an unmistakably cosmic flair. It’s a project that not only showcases his mastery of production but also his lifelong vision of a borderless world connected through music.

Breaking Borders with Sound

For nearly two decades, Romain has been a key innovator in the Asian electronic scene. As the founder of the award-winning Fauve Radio & Records and the boutique record store The Pharmacy, he has continuously championed the underground spirit while helping elevate Asia’s dance music culture onto the global stage. His Boiler Room debut in 2018 in Hong Kong marked a turning point, propelling him toward international recognition as both DJ and producer.

The Sound of Musique De Maison

The EP opens with the title track “Musique De Maison”, a five-minute voyage through organic percussion grooves, elongated basslines, and intricately woven synth melodies. Its warm analog energy and cosmic disco textures capture Romain’s deep understanding of rhythm, tone, and atmosphere: a sound that feels equally at home in Tokyo’s intimate clubs or Paris’s underground discotheques.

Next comes “Tonal Spices”, a heady blend of squelchy acid lines, cinematic strings, and evocative Indian vocal samples. The track’s bold layering and hypnotic flow showcase Romain’s fearless approach to cultural fusion: music without boundaries, crafted for a dancefloor that belongs to everyone.

On the flip side, Monkey Timers reimagine “Musique De Maison” into a pulsing late-night weapon. Their remix expands on the original’s groove with swirling delays, deep bass modulation, and hypnotic reverb: a Tokyo-infused rework that honors the source material while pushing it toward uncharted dance territory.

Closing the release is “Psych-O-Delic (Live Mix)”, a playful and surreal exploration of rhythm and texture. Off-kilter drums, trippy synths, and processed spoken word combine to create a hallucinatory finale that nods to Romain’s experimental live performances.

The Vision of Romain FX

Born in France and raised across Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the USA, Romain FX embodies a truly global musical identity. His sets, shaped by a collection of over 3000 vinyls and analog machines, flow seamlessly between eras and genres, from Balearic disco to deep acid and futuristic house.

Having released on acclaimed labels like Kalahari Oyster Cult, Permanent Vacation, and Live at Robert Johnson, his productions have earned support from icons such as DJ Harvey, The Black Madonna, Gerd Janson, and Horse Meat Disco. His live, dawless performances – performed without a computer – have electrified audiences at Moga Festival, Nuits Sonores, and Contre-Temps, where he’s shared stages with Laurent Garnier, Francesco Del Garda, and Tama Sumo.

With Musique De Maison, Romain FX once again delivers a body of work that transcends geography and genre: a cosmic, heartfelt reminder that music is the true universal language.

“To all the dreamers out there: never wake up.” – Romain FX
